DALLAS – March 3, 2020 – Komen Dallas County will host its annual BigWigs campaign for the month of March. Over the four week timeframe, six passionate individuals will compete to see who can raise the most funds for Komen Dallas County. Each BigWig has committed to raise at least $1,500. Komen Dallas County has an overall goal of raising $28,000 through this campaign.

Participants include: Jessica Jesse, owner/CEO of BuDhaGirl; Diane Maupin, marketing & catering director at MidiCi Italian Kitchen; Nicole Metcalf, senior vice president – associate general counsel at Independent Financial; Shannon Murray, reporter at FOX 4; Sarah Sparling, attorney at Akerman LLP; and Jason Troutman, general manager at Mac Haik Ford DeSoto. Each BigWig has been impacted in some way by breast cancer.

“My mother is a breast cancer survivor, and as the mother of two young daughters, I am dedicated to raising funds to continue the fight against breast cancer. In my role as Executive Director of this incredible organization, I also had opportunity to meet so many incredible survivors and forever fighters and I do this for them too!” Nicole Metcalf of Independent Financial explained why this campaign means so much to her.

Jason Troutman of Mac Haik Ford DeSoto added, “This is a privileged opportunity to partner with a fantastic organization to further raise awareness, as well as to continue research and advancement in developing the cures.”

Sofia Olivarez, executive director of Komen Dallas County, stated, “as one of the cities with the highest breast cancer mortality rate amongst African American women, as well as the state with the highest percentage of uninsured people, the need is great for low cost to no cost breast health services. We are thrilled to have so many committed individuals ‘wigging out’ with us to support these vital programs.”

The BigWigs campaign launched on a strong note, bringing in over $2,000 in just a few hours during the Kickoff Event at Dallas’ Bungalow 5. BigWigs, friends, family, and colleagues attended with the hopes and determination to end breast cancer forever. The campaign continues through March 31st with a goal of raising $28,000. Funds raised will help Komen Dallas County’s grantees provide breast health services for the uninsured and underinsured in Dallas County as well as breakthrough research.
