2017-2018 COMMUNITY PARTNER ANNOUNCEMENT
We announced our 2017-2018 Community Partners at our Promise Breakfast on April 21, 2017 (see pictures here). The six chosen Community Partners received funds that will benefit underserved Dallas County residents, and further the mission to save lives in Dallas County by meeting the most critical needs of the community. Overall, we invested more than $1.1 million in local breast health services and national breast cancer research programs. We are so grateful to all of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers who made this contribution possible.

PROJECT ONE MILLION
Eighty million people are expected to try yoga for the first time this year. Manduka Yoga and Susan G. Komen® know something about statistics. With 40,000 women expected to die this year alone in the U.S. of breast cancer, Komen and Manduka want to help change that statistic through the power of yoga. Join Project: OM this Mother’s Day weekend and help us reach our Bold Goal of reducing the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. by 2026. Go to projectOM.com to learn how you can get involved and help us change the lives of women and men facing a diagnosis.
PINK URBAN MUSIC FESTIVAL The Pink Urban Music Festival will be held May 20th at the Band Shell in Fair Park. The festival will feature artists: Kelly Price, AHOYNZ featuring Kenya C, Major and Natural Change. We would like to thank the festival for donating 20% of all ticket sales to Komen Dallas County and for creating an event that helps us further our mission to end breast cancer forever.
From April 10 – May 31, Simon is offering customers the opportunity to receive a discount card valid for 25% off at participating stores by making a $10 donation to Susan G. Komen®. From Oct. 1, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2018, Simon is proud to support Susan G. Komen® and, with the help of generous individuals like you, will guarantee a contribution of at least $1 million for each of 2017 and 2018 in connection with its various fundraising initiatives. |

RESEARCH CORNER
The Komen Scholars are an advisory group of 60 distinguished scholars and leaders in breast cancer research and advocacy. Each has made significant contributions to advancing the field or demonstrated significant promise of doing so in the future and all are committed to furthering Komen’s mission. Komen Scholar, Dr. Eric Winer, was asked why Komen is so important to the breast cancer movement. He explained that Komen does an excellent job at “doing it all” and over the next 10 to 20 years Komen has the ability to make a huge impact. Dr. Winer also explains that we need to find better treatments for breast cancer patients and we must make these treatments more available for those in need. Click here to hear more from Dr. Winer. |
